PHMSA has expressed “no objection” to the usage and permanent application of Jeepable barcodes.
Application requires the following criteria
The pipeline operator must have procedures and documentation describing the proper method for barcode label application.
Any pipe that needs barcodes applied or reapplied must be inspected and any holidays repaired prior to applying any new barcode labels.
The pipeline operator must be able to provide proof that barcode labels are jeepable at a low voltage with a very small pinhole type holiday under the barcode.
The barcode label must not be too large so as to impede or shield cathodic protection.
